Vergara’s love of makeup started at an early age so, by the time she found mainstream fame in Hollywood, it seemed like a dream come true when CoverGirl invited her to be their spokesmodel. “I remember watching my mom and aunt get ready to go out and falling in love with the process of putting on makeup and perfume,” Vergara says of her earliest beauty memory.”
Taught to never leave the house without wearing at least mascara if not a full face of makeup, Vergara begins her glamorous look by moisturizing and, as a woman with a net worth of $120 million, can certainly afford to spend $170 on one ounce of the best moisturizer on the market—La Mer’s Crème de la Mer. After nourishing her skin, Vergara applies Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Foundation in Classic Tan ($10). The long-lasting foundation provides full coverage and is ideal for every occasion whether Vergara is walking the red carpet, spending the day at the studio, or going out to a romantic dinner with her husband, True Blood star Joe Manganiello.
With the Covergirl foundation giving her skin a luminous finish, Vergara tops the look off with a soft tan glow using the Covergirl Bombshell Shine Shadow by Lash Blast in Gold Goddess ($9). Thanks to her Latina heritage, she’s already fairly tan so the bronzer enhances her famous glow as she brushes Covergirl Cheekers Blush in Rock N Rose ($5) from the top of her cheekbones down to the apples of her cheeks.

Before starting on her eyeshadow, Vergara plumps and defines her brows using the Covergirl Bombshell Pow-der Brow + Liner in Medium Brown ($10). She then turns to the Covergirl Eyeshadow Quad in the Blooming Blushes Palette ($10) to give herself a smoky and sultry eye. Here, she uses the Covergirl Makeup Masters Eye Shadow Brush ($3) or the Covergirl Makeup Masters Dual Eyeshadow and Eyeliner Brush ($7) to highlight just underneath her brow bone while blending a neutral color along the crease.
Vergara accentuates the corner of her eyes with the quad palette’s darker shades, which is a technique she’s been using as long as she can remember. “I’ve worn the same shades my whole life because I know what looks good on me and at my age,” she says. “I used to do more black eyeliner, but now that I’m older I wear browns because black can be too much. And I own a million products.”
To finish her eyes, Vergara applies Covergirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Brown and uses the soft blending tip to further blend and create the smoky look. She adds a darker brown eye shadow to get the exact shade for her olive skin town and completes the ensemble by curling her lashes with the Covergirl Makeup Masters Eyelash Curler ($4). She applies the first coat of mascara using Covergirl Lash Bloom Mascara by Lash Blast ($8) and, if it’s a special occasion, she puts on a pair of false eyelashes (after measuring and trimming) using black or clear adhesive. She retouches her eyeliner and applies two more coats of mascara to blend her natural lashes with the false lashes and applies a single coat of mascara to her bottom lash to finish the look.
On the rare occasion when she’s not wearing a pair of false lashes, Vergara turns to Covergirl’s Bombshell Volume Mascara ($9), which is two mascaras in one with a double-ended tube for volume and intensity! Because she believes you can never have too much volume—it’s a Latin thing—Vergara curls her lashes using the Covergirl eyelash curler and applies three coats to her top lashes and one coat to the bottom lash to create her signature sultry gaze!

“My mouth is really big, so sometimes I feel like the Joker when I do red lips,” she says even though we don’t believe it! Vergara’s signature pout is one of the actress’s best features and doesn’t go unnoticed thanks to her love of lipstick in every sexy shade you can image! Taking a cue from her beauty icon, Sophia Loren, Vergara picks her lipstick based on her outfit, mood, and eyeshadow palette. Because her lipstick usually has to last all night when she’s out on the red carpet promoting her latest movie or Modern Family, Vergara sticks to reliable products like Covergirl’s Outlast Longwear Lip Color in Plum Fury ($8). Applying the color over the lip, Vergara then uses the Covergirl Lip Perfection Lip Liner in Beloved ($6) to define the edges of her lips and set the color in place. Another one of Vergara’s favorite products is the Covergirl Lip Perfection Lip Color in Ravish, which she’s been spotted wearing out on the town with her handsome husband!

Although the 45-year-old actress is the first to admit that she loves to play dress up and put on makeup, Vergara says she feels most beautiful on the inside. “What’s most important is how you feel on the inside. And I feel beautiful when I’m with my husband and my family and friends,” she admits. “Don’t get me wrong; I can assure you, during those moments I’ll have some makeup on—and probably high heels.”
As for her love of makeup, Vergara says it’s just part of who she is and the confidence she has as a Latina woman. “I was always a little confident, but it wasn’t until I began finding success as an actress that I truly became comfortable,” she says. “Being on a hit show like Modern Family opened the door to so much opportunity and allowed me to pursue passions outside of acting. I was able to have clothing lines, be the face of Covergirl, and create three perfumes. I recently cofounded an underwear business called EBY (Empowered by You, a subscription-based underwear line), and 10 percent of its sales goes to microfinance loans for women. I think that’s what has made me feel the most confident: succeeding in business.” Ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the most powerful women in the world, Sofia Vergara’s confidence should truly soar as she continues to work on television projects like Modern Family, The Simpsons, and Family Guy as well as in films like The Female Brain, The Emoji Movie, Bent and The Brits Are Coming.
