Wowing audiences with her performance in The Blind Side in 2009, she earned her greatest commercial success in the 2015 comedy film, Minions, which grossed over $1 billion at box offices around the country. In recent years, she’s even extended her reach as a film producer and entrepreneur after founding Fortis Films, which has produced several of Bullock’s own films. But, that’s not all! She was also the executive producer of George Lopez on ABC and, apart from raising her two children, stays busy with more recent projects like The Heat, Gravity, Our Brand is Crisis, and the highly anticipated Oceans 8 of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. It makes perfect sense, then, why so many look to Bullock for style tips and beauty advice. But, “America’s sweetheart” doesn’t have much advice to give since she leaves her makeup to the experts in exchange for a natural glow when she isn’t on the set!

Bullock is the first to admit that she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup when she has to do it herself, but that doesn’t mean she’s opposed to taking care of her skin. How else would the 53-year-old look so incredibly vibrant and youthful? For starters, the Miss Congeniality star doesn’t skimp on skincare products and happily spends $245 for the La Prairie Anti-Aging Emulsion, which is a daily wrinkle protection and moisturizer that also offers a broad-spectrum SPF 30 while eliminating and smoothing out wrinkles. “It’s not cheap, and I have no idea how it works, but I love how it makes my skin feel,” Bullock says. “Everyone makes such a big deal about aging and I never used to think about it, but now I find myself paying more attention. I have no idea how I’ll look at 60, but I do like experimenting with all the new creams out there.”
When she’s preparing for a big event like a movie premiere or an awards ceremony, Bullock leaves her beauty routine up to talented makeup artists like Angela Levin who swear by Chanel’s Sublimage Moisturizer La Crème Yeux ($225). Other products that make the list for creating Bullock’s flawless foundation are the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer SPF 20 ($39) and the Dior Glow Maximizer Light Boosting Primer ($42).

Because Bullock’s skin is nearly flawless, it’s easy to apply full-coverage foundations with ease without the need for heavy concealer. On the red carpet, Bullock is often spotted wearing the Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream ($48), the Guerlain Parure De Lumiere Foundation ($72), or the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation ($65). These are all best applied starting in the center of the face and working out using the Chanel Foundation Brush ($50) to evenly apply and the Chanel 2-in-1 Foundation Brush Fluid/Powder ($50) to blend.
To contour, Bullock’s makeup artist uses the Chanel Contouring Brush ($60) to apply the Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel in Desert Corail ($50) and then focuses on adding color to her cheeks. Using a Chanel brush, she brushes one of three of Bullock’s favorite blushes—NARS Oasis Blush ($45), Chanel Tweed Blush Duo in Tweed Rose ($45), or Vincent Longo Water Canvas Blush in Swan Lake ($27)—from the top of her cheekbone down to the apples of her cheeks. She then sets the foundation with a mist of Coola Green Tea and Aloe Makeup Setting Spray ($36), which also hydrates and revitalizes Bullock’s skin while giving it a nice sheen.

Bullock’s eyebrows are the envy of many women but, believe it or not, her routine is fairly simple and requires filling in her brows with the Chanel Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil ($29) and then defining and setting them with the Chanel Longwear Eyebrow Gel ($32). Apart from her brows, she’s known for rocking a smoky eye and has a long list of favorite eyeshadows, which she alternates depending on her lip color, wardrobe, and the event.
Typically choosing neutral palettes like the Chanel Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette ($65,), she enhances the light and dark shades with the Chanel Ombre Premiere Longwear Cream Eyeshadow ($36). Some of her other favorites include the Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Longwear Luminous Eyeshadow ($36), the Chanel Les 4 Ombre Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow ($61), the Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Trace ($29.50), and the Illamasqua Neutral Palette ($53). For these, she picks the most neutral color as her base and applies it using the Chanel Eyeshadow Blending Brush ($38). She uses the Chanel Eye Contouring Brush to blend in the darker hues until the crease of her eye is smoky and contoured while adding lighter shades to the interior to open the eye and create a brighter look.
Once her eyeshadow is complete, she lines her lash line using the Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner ($33) and then smudges the liner with the Chanel Eyeliner Brush ($32). She preps her lashes with the Dior Maximizer 3D Triple Volume Plumping Lash Primer ($29.50) using a trick she learned from makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani. “It really makes a difference,” Bedrani says of the lash primer. “The lashes look much fuller. I have a hard time using just mascara now that I have tried it.” For the final touch, she applies several coats of Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Waterproof Mascara ($32) or the Chanel Inimitable Extreme 10 Mascara ($32) and then brushes out her lashes for a more dramatic look.

Bullock often wears a nude lip and prefers shades from Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour ($37) like Paris or Beige Felin; however, she isn’t opposed to a bright pop of color like the night she won an Oscar for her performance in The Blind Side. Makeup artist Angela Levin did Bullock’s makeup that evening and, although she already had her makeup planned, Levin had a change of heart at the last minute. “When I got there, I started and realized I wanted to do something different,” Levin told Allure magazine. “I had this feeling she was going to win, and I thought, ‘She needs a red lip.’ I told her we needed to make a change… She told me that she didn’t think she’d win, but okay, switch it up if you feel it’s best. I showed her a few options, we picked a beautiful red and after it was on everyone agreed it was the right choice.”

“Makeup is scary. When I do it myself, it’s just mascara and sometimes I forget even to do that.” The 52-year-old Bullock is the first to admit that she isn’t one to spend a lot of time putting on makeup each morning and that’s primarily because she simply doesn’t have the time. Instead, she’d rather spend her free time with her son, Louis, and her daughter, both of whom Bullock adopted over the last decade. Together, the happy family of three live a quiet life in between Bullock’s numerous business ventures, film projects, and philanthropy.
